California’s gay marriage ban overturned by Court's decision

This much anticipated decision marked a major turning point in a social debate that has sharply divided the American public and its political establishment: as usual, the strongest opposition to the fight for equal rights came from those who believe same-sex marriage is to be considered as a threat to the traditional family and its core values.
Even if the case is not over yet and there’s a long way to the conservative-leaning Supreme Court’s decision, judge Vaughn Walker’s ruling has to be considered an important step towards the full equality of rights in a nation in which 39 states still have laws explicitly prohibiting same-sex marriage.
