From Discrimination to Empowerment in Trieste
Theoretically informed and empirically grounded (qualitative or quantitative empirical research) contributions in English from scholars in the social sciences and humanities are invited, as well as presentations of best practices and projects from community activists and practitioners.
The conference will address issues relevant to the main themes of the conference, Discrimination and Empowerment, and allow quality exchange on themes such as:
Lithuania now protects LGBT people against discrimination in Public Information
The new amendment of the Article 39 of the Law on the Provision of Information to the Public has been voted during the plenary session of the Lithuanian Parliament (Seimas) in June, 16th. The legal text now outlaws discrimination based on sexual orientation in advertisements instead of fining any representation of a sexual orientation or its promotion.

Do look you feminine? You must be corrected in Malaysia
24 April 2011, Malaysia – A State of the Federal Republic of Malaysia has decided that if a child’s behavior is feminine it must be corrected by force of arms.
The government of Kuala Lumpur has just set up a sort of camp to “correct” those children who behaves in a too feminine way. Though some days of religious and physical ri-education, they will be able to “recuper” their male identity and not to become gay in the future.
Hungary passes definitively the new conservative constitution
20 April 2011, Hungary - Two days ago the Hungarian Parliament passed a right wing project of the new Hungarian Constitution which is the subject of serious discussions among lawyers, left wing politicians, human rights nongovernmental organizations and the European Commission with respect to its compatibility with EU human rights regulations.
Transgender Employee Awarded €35,000 by Equality Tribunal for Discrimination at Work
Dublin, Ireland 19 Apr 2011 - Louise Hannon, is the first transgender worker to sucessfully rely upon the Employment Equality Act for discrimination on grounds of transsexualism. The Equality Tribunal awarded €35,422.71 in compensaton having found that she was discriminated against on the basis of gender and disability.
The French Equality Body, HALDE, will be incorporated in a new institution
The revision of the French 1958 Constitution in 2008 introduced a new Republican institution, the Defender of rights. It shall succeed to the present equality bodies, including the HALDE.
France: Emblematic penalties for homophobic violence

The trial of those charged with the attempted murder of Bruno Wiel before the Court of Créteil will set a historic precedent for LGBT rights.

Turkey, 2 Feb 2011 – The following statement was released by a number of LGBT organisiations in Turkey condemning the removeal of sexual identity from the draft law on combatting discrimination.
“We have learned that Justice and Development Party ( AKP ) Government removed “sexual identity” phrase from the Draft Law on Combatting Discrimination and Equality Committee.
