Same Sex Marriage Bill to be Introduced in Rhode Island with Governor Lincoln Chafee's Support
Rhode Island, United States, 12 Jan 2011, a Bill to legislate for marriage equality in Rhode Island will be introduced before the Rhode Island General Assembly, tomorrow the 13th of January.
Representative Art Handy, Democrat of Cranston, and Senator Rhoda Perry, Democrat of Providence, said that they would reintroduce bills to legalize same-sex marriage which failed last year in the House and Senate after Governor Lincoln Chafee called on legislators to legalize same-sex marriage.

Maryland, United States, 12 Jan 2011, Maryland is set to become the sixth US State to recognize same-sex marriage. Proponents say they believe they have enough support to pass such a measure in the Maryland General Assembly 90 day legislative session which began this morning. Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley has publicly stated that he would sign a marriage bill into law. In response Republican Senate Majority Leader Allan H. Kittleman (R-Howard) instead proposed that civil unions be introduced.
Same-Sex Couples' Divorce to Remain Valid in Texas after Decision of the Third Court of Appeals
United States, 7 Jan 2011 – On the January 7 2011, Austin, Texas, a three-judge panel of the Third Court of Appeals of Texas ruled that the Texas Attorney General, Greg Abbott lacked jurisdiction to intervene in a Travis County same-sex divorce case. The ruling allows the divorce granted in Texas to two women married out of state to remain binding but does not affect Texas’ ban on same sex marriage.
